Orange, like Red, is a good thing.

I think that I like Orange more than Red now.. Don't try and ask me what it is that made me decide this, because I'm not entirely sure myself.. Shall we analyze it? Okie Dokie.

Why did I like Red in the first place:

Well, first of all, Red always looks wet, and I like the wet look. Then there is the darkness aspect (we aren't talking candy apple Red). I'm going in the direction of Red roses, blood, and things like dark Red lipstick, more like Red satin things.. dark Red, you know?

Don't misunderstand me, I like the bright and cheery red, but not the way I like the dark and mysterious Red of the ages, that looks like it has been and will be there for just a little bit longer. Those bright and happy Red things are pop-Red, and pop is good.. for a bit. The thing is, when you get right down to it, anything that is happy Red will be 10 times (if not greater) more beautiful, powerful, special, odd, different, wonderful, mysterious, and/or seductive. Not to mention that it will probably be there (where ever 'there' is) for a longer time. That, I feel, gives it properties that don't make it stand out, but give greater presence. You feel the darker Reds more than you just SEE the happy, cheery Reds.

Did you get that? I'm sure I missed something in there.

Think we can handle some more? Nifty. Here's why Orange has 'climbed up through the ranks' for me:

As Red has always been there for me, I never felt that I needed any other colors. I was biased, if you can picture it like that. Red was my favorite stuffed animal, and why replace or match it when it does just as good of a job on it's own? Well, the best way I can put it is, "If you don't try new things, life gets monotonous", so, "Hey! Let's try something new!" But make it exciting. New colors are exciting. Particularly when all you are used to are dark and 'gloomy' things.

I went all out. "Orange," I say, "would be quite an exotic--" .. perhaps that is a poor choice for Orange, 'exotic', it makes it sound tropical. I don't find orange at all 'tropical'. No, instead when I think of it I feel charged with electricity, of the high voltage brand. Almost any shade, tint, and brightness of Orange has some sort of an electric current running through it (metaphors, people, metaphors..)

Now, when I look at or involve myself in something Orange, it makes me want to go do something .. hmm, what's the perfect word for this .. it's not quite spontanious, not quite irrational, more like 'fast paced'.. OK, so it's two words, so what? I want to go out and run around in some urban jungle and hide in alleyways while people try to find me, and since the color doesn't hide you all too well, it makes it a smidge more exciting!

Maybe the 'hide and go seek' example wasn't all that great, but it wasn't really an example in the first place. Just happens to be one of the things that Orange makes me want to do, in the metaphorical sense.

My greatest reason to love Orange is that everything which can be said about Red, can very likely be said about Orange! I mean, think about it: Red is dark. Orange has a darkness to it, if you look at it long enough. Red is wet. Orange is just as wet as Red. Red is mysterious. Orange is as mysterious (if not moreso) as Red. You can't help but feel something Orange, in just the same way you feel the darker Reds. Better than all of those, though, is that the brighter the Orange, the more perplexing and desirable it becomes, and that goes the same for darker shades.

Now is the part where you all ask, "Well, Orange looks so much like pop-Red, so, does that mean brighter Oranges are all pop?" Well, while the thing I've noticed with Orange is that while it has a pop flavor to it, it remains pop. With the pop-Red syndrome, all I can see is a 'flash in the pan' like sequence. With each generation, or decade, or genre, there is a pop-Red and a pop-Orange. The pop-Orange outlives it. Sure, it does eventually die off, but it always comes back.

I don't claim to be an expert. These are just my personal little psychotic feelings. So don't go, "What the hell is this freak talking about?!" .. Actually, do think that. It might make you think about it a little longer that way.

In a closing fashion, I would like to remind you that Orange is almost Red. Also, remember that you can't even have Orange without Red. Now my feet hurt and I can't look at the screen very much longer, so I leave you to ponder or scoff. Bai.
